In total, 170 tons of metal will be installed by Beetsteel, a metalworking company from the Arliz Group in Braga, in the self-sustaining university residence that will be built at AvePark, Guimarães’ Science and Technology Park.
“It is urgent that we adopt more ecological behaviors and develop greener solutions, and AvePark is contributing to and inspiring this movement with the construction of this ‘net-zero’ project. For us at Beetsteel, it is a huge pride to be part of such a sustainable and innovative project,” said Patrícia Vieira, director of Beetsteel, as quoted in a press release.
The main focus of the project, which is currently the largest undertaking by the Municipality of Guimarães, lies in its energy self-sufficiency, low CO2 emissions, reduced maintenance costs, and adaptability over time. With these features, the building has received an A+ NZEB 21 energy rating – Very Efficient Building, as well as certification by the ‘LiderA’ system with an exceptional performance class, also rated A+.
The construction of the residence, based on a modular and prefabricated building system, stands out for its predominant use of wood, integrated in various ways and supported by a metal structure bearing the Beetsteel signature.
