Guimágua’s investment of over one million euros in AvePark reinforces its commitment to research, development and innovation in the areas of water treatment, environment and engineering, contributing to the dynamism of the technological and business ecosystem of the municipality.
The Mayor of Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo, was present this Friday at the inauguration of the new Research Unit of the Guimágua Group, at AvePark – Science and Technology Park, an infrastructure geared towards the development of innovative solutions and new products.
“We want our city, our municipality, which is a birthplace of the nation, to also be a birthplace of innovation ,” stated Ricardo Araújo, arguing that the future of the territory depends on the capacity to transform research and science into economic development and value creation.
The mayor also stressed that Guimarães has “a strong industrial tradition” and “strong business dynamism,” highlighting that sectors with tradition need to continue innovating and diversifying to meet the challenges of the future. “We also need, while strengthening the sectors with tradition, to diversify this economy. And for that, we need strong investment in innovation,” he emphasized.
Ricardo Araújo praised the investment made by Guimágua, considering it “completely aligned with the Municipality’s strategy for the coming years ,” adding that this type of investment in research and knowledge allows companies to increase their competitiveness, generate greater profitability, and contribute to “increasing the average salary of people and the quality of life in the municipality.”
During the ceremony, the Mayor participated in the unveiling of the inaugural plaque and visited the company’s new facilities, emphasizing the strategic role of innovation, research, and knowledge transfer for the economic growth of the municipality.
During the session, António Mota, CEO of the Guimágua Group, stated that the new unit represents “more than an investment ,” being “an affirmation of a path” built “with knowledge, innovation, and an enormous desire to dive into the future.”
António Mota also thanked the Municipality of Guimarães for the support given to the project and “for the shared vision for the territory ,” concluding that the new center is born with “a global mission ,” focused on sustainability, resource efficiency, and technological development.
