On April 10, the Portuguese Government presented Programa Reforçar, a set of measures aimed at supporting Portuguese companies in their internationalization efforts, reducing financing costs, and boosting investment. The initiative will come into effect in the next quarter and will be available to all companies based in Portugal.
The program focuses on expanding the presence of Portuguese businesses beyond the United States and is open to companies of all sizes.
One of the key measures is the creation of a credit line worth over €5 billion, backed by public guarantees and featuring simplified application procedures. This aims to strengthen companies’ working capital and investment capacity.
In addition, the program includes a €3.5 billion support line, with maturities of up to 12 years, part of which may be converted into non-repayable grants. It also includes a €1.2 billion reinforcement of export credit insurance, covering risks in both emerging and traditional markets, with favorable conditions for SMEs.
Finally, the program enhances support for companies participating in international trade fairs, strengthening marketing strategies and increasing their global presence, with the goal of promoting Portuguese exports.
Through Programa Reforçar, the Government seeks to provide an effective response to the current tariff crisis and to strengthen the competitiveness of the Portuguese economy.
